19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time coach his previous coach.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface after that period of 2023.

Victory also indicates he has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six finals, including in that event earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and frequent outbursts on court had led observers to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was finished.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform positively, supported by an better service.

He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden professional title, took control to create a decider.

The opponent saved four early-game chances in a tight final set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
