The Video Platform Provides Viewers Control to Decrease AI-Generated Content in Timelines

Users will soon have a fresh option that permits them to lessen the quantity of AI-created videos appearing in their timelines. This initiative comes as the platform revealed that it now features more than 1 thousand million content made with AI.

Testing and Rollout

The new functionality is undergoing trials over the next few weeks before a full-scale release. This development aligns with a surge in AI-generated material, fueled by new AI video creators.

AI Proliferation Online

Studies have shown that approximately one in 10 of the quickest rising content creators on a competing service exclusively feature AI-generated videos. A significant portion of this content is classified as low-quality AI content, a term for inferior, mass-produced content that is frequently nonsensical or surreal.

“We know from our community that many people appreciate content made with AI tools, from digital art to science explainers, and we intend to give people the option to see more or less of that, based on their own choices,” commented a spokesperson.

AI on the Platform

TikTok disclosed that there are now 1.3bn videos on its network tagged as AI-generated. Overall, more than 100 mn media items are uploaded to the platform each day, making clips made by AI a relatively small part of its complete catalog.

User Control Features

Members will be able to reduce or increase the volume of AI-generated videos they watch by opening the topic control feature in the app and selecting “AI-generated content”. Additional categories that currently be adjusted under the tool encompass news, clothing, aesthetics, and movement.

AI Disclosure Rules

Its rules oblige content makers to identify convincing AI-made content, and it forbids dangerous AI impersonations of public figures or emergencies. Any believable AI video that is unmarked can be taken down under its terms of service.

Additionally, the service will now apply an “AI-made” label to content produced via its built-in AI features, or flagged by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing artificial media. This step is designed to deter users from trying to bypass the labeling process.

AI Literacy Programs

The company is also launching a $2 million educational fund for experts and groups to create informative material about ethical AI use. This initiative will assist educational bodies focused on teaching computer science.

Moderation Strategy

The video-sharing app has defended its safety measures, during debate over intentions to lay off numerous content moderators in the United Kingdom. It is expected to cut a significant number of roles in its trust and safety department in London, with worker representatives and online safety experts expressing worry that staff are being displaced by machine-led review.

A trust and safety lead explained that human moderation would continue to be important, but artificial intelligence can protect employees by removing the most harmful content prior to it has to be seen by humans. The company reported a significant reduction in disturbing and violent content handled by content reviewers over the past year due to reliance on its AI tools.

It is vital to combine staff and AI to maintain a secure environment,” the official commented. “We’ll have humans as part of that process, but we also think it’s highly necessary to limit contact with harmful content as swiftly, which is where a lot of the machine support is really helping us process content quickly.”
